This guide is meant to configure a single central office location for Dynamic E911. It does not cover Nomadic e911, you can find more information about configuring Nomadic E911 in this Guide: [MS Teams - Nomadic E911 Quick Setup Guide (External Lookup Mode) - CallTower Solutions Center (UC.solutions)](/v1/docs/ms-teams-nomadic-e911-quick-setup-guide-external-lookup-mode). It is recommended that you first configure your Dynamic E911 Office locations before enabling Nomadic E911 (External Look Up Mode). There is a Video Guide also included in this document. This video can also be accessed through the table of contents on the right hand side. ## Video Walkthrough [YouTube video player](https://www.youtube.com/embed/o56ZoipbEgM?si=KfmbNK5zHxjJQwai) ## Direct Routing Customers Pre-Requisite - - Browse to the Teams Admin Center - Voice > Emergency Polices > Emergency call routing policies > Global - Enable Dynamic Emergency calling - For Direct Routing customers only, enter both 933 and 911 emergency dial strings as shown in the below screen shot. > [!NOTE] > Note: > > Operator Connect does not require the emergency numbers to be defined. ![clipboard_e65213a5c53b052444a7551273d5a67f4.png](https://cdn.us.document360.io/4662144b-ab1f-4796-8b7b-e9f9c609894f/Images/Documentation/clipboard_e65213a5c53b052444a7551273d5a67f4(2).png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-04T19%3A20%3A53Z&se=2026-11-04T20%3A20%3A53Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=Yxu11ZRpLVOUz0pROZx0VWdS2SlaWc0K009tHLbx9rs%3D) - 933 will give you the ability to test the address lookup without calling 911. Emergency dial string: 933 Emergency dial mask: 1933;933 PSTN Usage: CallTower PSTN Emergency dial string: 911 Emergency dial mask: 1911;911 PSTN Usage: CallTower PSTN **Step 1** Make sure the location services for Teams is turned on. Below are some websites you can use to help. - [What Is My IP Address - See Your Public Address - IPv4 & IPv6](https://whatismyipaddress.com/) - [IP Chicken - What is my IP address? Free public IP lookup.](https://ipchicken.com/) - [What's My IP Address? Networking Tools & More (whatsmyip.org)](https://www.whatsmyip.org/) - Make a note of the IP Address. Then Browse the **Teams Admin Center** - Locations > Network Topology > Trusted Ips ![clipboard_ed2607246512908aaebb82541d6dcbc6f.png](https://cdn.us.document360.io/4662144b-ab1f-4796-8b7b-e9f9c609894f/Images/Documentation/clipboard_ed2607246512908aaebb82541d6dcbc6f(1).png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-04T19%3A20%3A53Z&se=2026-11-04T20%3A20%3A53Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=Yxu11ZRpLVOUz0pROZx0VWdS2SlaWc0K009tHLbx9rs%3D) Enter the IP Address you got from the External IP service; use 32 for the network range unless your network team can give you the actual range of the network in use. #### VPN Considerations for Dynamic E911 Deployments **Important – VPN Considerations:** If users connect to Microsoft Teams through a VPN, especially a **full‑tunnel VPN**, subnet‑based location detection may not function as expected. VPN connections can mask internal IP addresses and cause Teams clients to appear outside of the corporate network, which can prevent accurate location detection for Dynamic E911. In environments where VPN usage is common, Microsoft recommends prioritizing **Wireless Access Points (WAPs)** and **Ethernet switches** for location mapping instead of relying on internal subnets. Network elements such as WAPs and switches provide more reliable and precise location detection when users are connected through VPNs. Microsoft also recommends configuring **VPN split tunneling** for Microsoft Teams traffic. Split tunneling allows Teams media and signaling traffic to bypass the VPN, improving call quality and ensuring proper network detection for services such as Dynamic Emergency Calling. For additional guidance, see Microsoft’s documentation on preparing your network for Teams: [https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/MicrosoftTeams/prepare-network](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/MicrosoftTeams/prepare-network) **Step 3** **Configure your Network Site:** - Browse to the Teams Admin Center. Locations > Network Topology > Network Sites - Click Add. - In the "Add name for your network site" field, enter the name of your location. - Then Click on Add subnets: ![clipboard_ebef704529d89a2ee2aea3558ed598390.png](https://cdn.us.document360.io/4662144b-ab1f-4796-8b7b-e9f9c609894f/Images/Documentation/clipboard_ebef704529d89a2ee2aea3558ed598390(1).png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-04T19%3A20%3A53Z&se=2026-11-04T20%3A20%3A53Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=Yxu11ZRpLVOUz0pROZx0VWdS2SlaWc0K009tHLbx9rs%3D) - Enter your local IP network and range here. - You can use a Windows terminal to get this information. ![clipboard_e127a197087d255b0d1318dedd472a262.png](https://cdn.us.document360.io/4662144b-ab1f-4796-8b7b-e9f9c609894f/Images/Documentation/clipboard_e127a197087d255b0d1318dedd472a262(1).png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-04T19%3A20%3A53Z&se=2026-11-04T20%3A20%3A53Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=Yxu11ZRpLVOUz0pROZx0VWdS2SlaWc0K009tHLbx9rs%3D) - Right Click on your start menu, then select "Terminal." - Type ipconfig - Look for the connected adapter. - Look for the IPv4 Address and Subnet Mask - Browse to Calculator.net and put the values into the IPv4 Subnet Calculator ![clipboard_e35ad4110bd734d0e813a60456a51c9d0.png](https://cdn.us.document360.io/4662144b-ab1f-4796-8b7b-e9f9c609894f/Images/Documentation/clipboard_e35ad4110bd734d0e813a60456a51c9d0(1).png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-04T19%3A20%3A53Z&se=2026-11-04T20%3A20%3A53Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=Yxu11ZRpLVOUz0pROZx0VWdS2SlaWc0K009tHLbx9rs%3D) - [IP Subnet Calculator](https://www.calculator.net/ip-subnet-calculator.html) - Select the Subnet and put the IP address in. - Then, copy the network address from the results and use the CIDR Notation for the network range field. - Apply and Save. > [!NOTE] > Note: > > Subnet‑based location detection may be unreliable for VPN users. For VPN‑heavy environments, Microsoft recommends using Wireless Access Points and Ethernet switches for Dynamic E911 location mapping.
